Little Dee : Volume #1 - Chris Baldwin

Size is definately a thing with webcomic books. I know for one when I ordered Little Dee I thought it was going to be small. Boy was I wrong! This book is huge, packed to the brim with 142 pages and thousands upon thousands of strips it seems. I had to take two days to actually sit down and read them all.
Little Dee is about a small girl called Dee who is lost in the woods and found by a bear, a dog and a vulture. The characters develop along the way and although Dee never talks the other animal characters are fantastically developed. Ted is the caring (and cuddly) bear, my favourite dog Blake and the evil but has a warm heart of the vulture Vachel.
I hadn't read anything of Little Dee at all, except a few strips here and there, so this book was all totally new to me and I'm quite glad, I feel like I've lived a lifetime with them, especially from reading this massively packed book. I've journed into space with them, seen Blake deal with the crocodile that is in love with him, their ways of finding Dee's parents (or lack of) and the penguins travelling in their car.
It felt warmly the stories, Little Dee is fantastic and of course the star but mainly the animals around her are, she's just the object of their bond I guess. Vachel is definately the one with all the punchlines, but its the others that make you do the whole "awww..." lines that I always kept on saying to myself.
The characters definately get into your heart and also the artwork is something I can remember seeing in newspapers, it has that feel to it. Actually it kinda reminds me of Calvin and Hobbes in some way and I'm a huge fan of Calvin and his adventures and now Little Dee as well.
I'm one for loving extra stuff, so at the end of the book when I thought that there was a few more Little Dee, I was impressed to see some guest strips and artwork from other artists, bringing Little Dee into different artist styles. Little Dee is definately something that take a small place in my heart and definately on my list of must-reads. It's heartwarming, funny, adventurous and a great (and LONG) read!
My Rating : Makes me wish I was adopted by a bear, dog and vulture because they have so much fun on the page, I wish I was with them too.

I think Chris Baldwin is very much ispired by Bill Watterson and it shows.
Since a friend turned me onto Little Dee, I have been hooked, hooked, hooked. The drawings are astoundingly endearing, the story lines odd and engaging. And damn, is it funny! I truly don't understand why Little Dee isn't in every newspaper in the country. It's a great deal better than 99% of the stuff out there, and deserves to be read.
I am most likely the oldest "Little Dee" fan in creation, but I don't care. I read "Little Dee" first thing in the morning - and the last thing at night.
Today I purchased original "Little Dee" art, and it's the best thing I've done all month!
The comic strip is endearing and I hope it is around for a long time. Chris Baldwin is a treasure!
OK - I'll not be anonymous - I am proud of my devotion to "Little Dee" - I, Erlinda Brent, just ADORE this comic strip! I can't wait to find out what the characters are up to next! I would have LOVED to have been at the Halloween Party - (I would have changed my everyday "AngryMiddleAgedBlackWoman" costume to that of the "Chocolate Happy Fairy" right in the middle of the banana cream pie fight! Then, the next day, I would change back to my everyday costume - but I'd be a little happier (when no one was looking!)
Christopher Baldwin is still a treasure!
