Ninja Bunny: Wind, Rain and Thunder - Philip Spence

Ninja Bunny has been a love for me for over a year almost. I found it somehow, I don't even recall how, just before the Webcomix Thing convention last year but it seems like I've known it forever. I've seen it gain momentum, I've sorta seen it grow, first badge set, first fortray into the webcomic world, mentioning it whenever I could. I always nagged Phil to release a book and I thought he'd just do a normal everyday collection of strips like everyone else, he didn't.
He told me that he always liked the idea of creating something himself. Crump Life, a friend of his, did just that. I wasn't sure what to expect. I had only reviewed a few self-made book in my entire time at Webcomics in Print, the rest have used proper publishers and the like, but the difference between self-publishing and creating it yourself to using a proper publisher, besides the quality of the book you hold so dear, is that the one that's been done by hand seems so much more... special.
Ninja Bunny has never been about speech. Actions speak louder than words and Ninja Bunny's world is action. This book expands an already existing storyline online but does so like HOUSD Issues do, expanding and adding extra pieces to the already mighty story. When you flick through it, it almost goes by in a blink of an eye. I would have loved it to have been expanded more and sure it would have probably killed Phil (I know what it's like sometimes with him drawing a new strip), but maybe the first adventures of Ninja Bunny might expand more and flesh out it more.
It's small, smaller than even Stuff Sucks (but then again they always say good things come in small packages). If you don't mind the frayed edges where the scissors cut the paper, then you're in for a treat. This is books from webcomics at its best (and I'm not saying that cause my name appears in the back). Sometimes if you're gonna do something like this, maybe a little bit of blood, sweat and tears do have to go into the final product as well. And every single copy contains a unique and original image, nobody else is gonna get it or see it, so if nothing else it's worth it just for that!
My Rating : I would have preferred a longer tail, but Ninja Bunny has such a cute tushy as it is, I'm quite happy with his first, of hopefully many, adventures.
